I’ve always been an avid reader. I used to go through chapter books in hours, not days. When I got older, I started reading magazines, and I would read every article, cover to cover. I loved the articles in Men’s Journal. People hopping in rafts and rafting down rivers in Africa, or road trips through South America. Adventure journalism? Something like that perhaps. I always loved National Geographic too.
So, one of my possible career choices was to take pictures for National Geographic or some such magazine. I love photographing nature. But I also loved all the exciting articles I read about people’s adventures. So, I thought maybe I would write for magazines. I never really pursued this, because I already have a pretty good job with full benefits that pays the bills. So I haven’t been looking for anything else. But I think that I need to start putting irons in the fire. I want to do something else. I want to be prepared if I get laid off or decide that this job sucks too much to endure anymore.
So I’m going to write a book. I don’t know what it will be about yet, but I’m going to start writing chapters here in my blog. You all get to bear witness to my first novel. I may do it for NaNoWriMo (national novel writing month). Or I may start sooner. We’ll see what happens. I don’t know if it would be fair to start early, but I don’t really want to wait 3 weeks to start either. So maybe I’ll just write some short stories between now and then. Only time will tell. If you’re interested, you can follow my blog, and I’ll make sure to categorize all the writings to easily locate them.
