Cloud Computing is a terrible idea. There, I said it. It’s not that it’s not a nice concept. The logistics are the problem. See, first there’s the whole cloud itself. That’s gotta be a system (or systems) housed in a secure location with redundant power. Then once you’ve got this nice secure location with all the redundant power in the world, you still have to connect it to something. So, now you have to get connections to at least one, but preferably multiple internet providers. Once you get all that set up, you’ve got yourself a pretty nice cloud, but now that you have this cloud… how are you going to get your data in and out? You need a connection too. Wherever you are. Now, I know that there are a few companies offering this service wirelessly. We call them the Wireless Industry. And they have total control. You want your data? You’re going to pay for it. And it’s going to cost. Boy is it going to cost. And then, when you aren’t in the right places, it won’t even work. We haven’t even gotten into data theft and security concerns. So, I’m not a fan of cloud computing right now.
What needs to happen, is that there needs to be a decentralized network. Cloud computing with cloud networking. Maybe mesh networking. All the peers that can communicate with each other do, and each wireless point bounces signals to all the other wireless points in range. Maybe a multi band configuration. Use the 2.4ghz band for connecting to devices, and use a shortwave frequency to communicate with other wireless points.
This is just a short ramble with no real point. That’s all for now.
